My new sounds: Check out an episode from our series Talking Higher Education! Feel free to give us feedback.
The University College of the Caribbean (UCC) Canadian Student Exchange Programme began in 2010 when UCC partnered with 2 colleges in Canada; namely the University of the Prince Edwards Island (UPEI) and Lambton College. At that time, nine students were selected to be ambassadors for UCC and Jamaica. Four were sent to UPEI for one semester and the others attended Lambton College for two semesters.
The value of the scholarships ranged from CAN$7,500-$15,000. This covered room and board, air fare, meal-plan, books, health insurance, administrative costs and a bit of spending money for the students. Students were to pay their tuition to UCC and still enjoy the experience of studying in Canada.
Selection Process
Students selected to participate in this exchange programme came mainly from our Full-time students (Day School) and had to be involved in student life on campus as active members of a club or society, or be involved in student government. This would ensure that students involved in the programme are not only academically proficient, but also socially inclined. Selection was via panel consisting of UCC lecturers and administrators.
2011 Selection
This year 14 students successfully received scholarships for the Caricom-Canada exchange programme. These lucky recipients will be leaving for two (2) semesters for Lambton College and new partner Lakeland College. Thirteen of the students are currently enrolled in the B.SC. in Business Administration Programme and one (1) student is enrolled in the Management Information Systems programme. The students will depart on their new adventure during the month of August. Please join us in wishing them all the best!
